    In June 1990, Rooks Farm Service, Inc. purchased a grain elevator in Burgaw, NC with the space to store 671,000 Bu. We had to find a way to purchase grain from the producer and be able to offer a competitive price.  RFS became affiliated with White Commercial and began learning the process of grain merchandising.  Through continuing education we feel we have always been able to offer the producer the most profitable and up to the minute alternatives to pricing his grain.

Marketing Alternatives

  • Target Contract- an offer to sell at a specific price
  • Forward Contract- an offer to sell at a specific price for future delivery
  • Minimum Price Contract- establishes a price on the grain while enabling the producer to participate in higher prices
  • Basis Contract- locks the producer into a basis allowing the farmer to deliver grain at harvest and price later at the future current price
  • Delayed Payment- Grain is delivered and priced, title of grain is transferred to elevator and payment is delayed to later date with possible interest compensation.
